I am super excited to return to Kane Street Synagogue after getting involved as a Shabbat leader in the fall of 2008. Growing up in <city w:st="on">Shaker Heights</city>, <state w:st="on">Ohio</state> I began to tutor Bar and Bat Mitzvah students after attending <place w:st="on"><placename w:st="on">Solomon</placename> <placename w:st="on">Schechter</placename> <placetype w:st="on">Day School</placetype></place>. I graduated from <placename w:st="on">Barnard</placename> <placetype w:st="on">College</placetype>, <place w:st="on"><placename w:st="on">Columbia</placename> <placetype w:st="on">University</placetype></place> in May of 2011 majoring in English and minoring in Psychology. I also graduated from the Stella Adler Studio of Acting Evening Conservatory in 2009 and spent a year studying in <city w:st="on"><place w:st="on">London</place></city>. I absolutely love teaching, and in addition to teaching <place w:st="on"><placename w:st="on">Hebrew</placename> <placetype w:st="on">School</placetype></place> and Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutoring, I am a volunteer teacher with Artists Striving to End Poverty. Last summer I taught music to refugee children with the International Rescue Committee and in August I travelled to <place w:st="on"><country-region w:st="on">India</country-region></place> to teach at the Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project, a rigorous school for children from the untouchables caste. I am an actor who loves Shakespeare, Sondheim, and yoga. I am really happy and eager to work with the bright students at Kane Street!

My name is Natalie Carmeli and I am excited to join <place w:st="on"><placename w:st="on">Kane</placename> <placename w:st="on">Street</placename> <placename w:st="on">Hebrew</placename> <placetype w:st="on">School</placetype></place> as the 5th grade Judaica teacher! Last year, I participated in Americorps national service working for housing justice in <placename w:st="on">Jackson</placename> <placename w:st="on">Heights</placename>, <place w:st="on">Queens</place>. A native New Yorker, I earned my BA in upstate <place w:st="on"><placename w:st="on">Binghamton</placename> <placetype w:st="on">University</placetype></place> and have also studied at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies. In my free time, I enjoy doodling, reading Israeli novels and making lists of three. I look forward to spending this year learning from students as we explore our wonderful Jewish traditions.

Welcome to the new Hebrew School blog of Kane Street Synagogue!

<span style="background-color: white;
